“The original starred Mel Gibson
as a confident chauvinistic male who suddenly acquires the ability to
hear what the women around him are really thinking. The new version
follows a female sports agent (Henson) who has been constantly boxed out
by her male colleagues. When she gains the power to hear men’s
thoughts, she is able to shift the paradigm to her advantage as she
races to sign the NBA’s next superstar.
The film will be produced by Will Packer and James Lopez and Henson will executive produced.”
Marvel Animation is working with the LEGO Group on an animated film centered on Black Panther. Black Panther: Trouble In Wakanda was announced by Marvel’s VP of Animation Cort Lane during a panel Sunday at New York Comic Con.
They went out their way to cast a 30 year old woman as a college student.
I’ve never seen the cast but this is quite alarming. None of the girls darker than a paper bag. This is NOT representative of the Black community at all.
It’s our season finale and this is not a drill. REPEAT: THIS IS NOT A DRILL!
We sat down with our Actual Fave, Chris ‘With His Fine Ass’ Evans (during his lunch break! from the set of an Avengers movie! at length!) and got to ask him what it feels like to be an Object Of Thirst™ for so many people. And you know what? HE FUCKING ANSWERED.
👆🏾 This is us right now, tbh
Some things we spoke about with Chris:
Pie. Specifically, Chris loves apple pie and blueberry pie, but thinks cherry pie can be “a little too sharp, does that make sense?”
Broadway. He tells us about looking forward to the challenges of finally playing despicable character Bill in his upcoming Broadway debut in a revival of Kenneth Lonergan’s Lobby Hero.
Fanfic. Shocker of shockers: Chris has no idea what fanfiction is. Thankfully, we’re oh-so-happy to enlighten him (he has thoughts about Bruce Banner/Steve Rogers pairings, but you’ll get to that.)
Dorks. Chris thinks he’s one. “I really do have dorky tendencies,” he tells us. In response, we swoon gently.
BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE.
We also asked Chris about that righteous beard Cap is rocking in the Infinity War trailer, idly wondering what products he uses to keep it looking so luscious. Sis, get this: HE USES NOTHING ON IT. Can you believe? That shit just grows perfectly like that (it takes about three weeks to get “full”, FYI. 👀)
Furthermore! We introduced him to the reality of Black Twitter (and the Rivers of Thirst that broke the dams upon the first sighting of That Beard), which segued very smoothly into asking when we might see Chris on screen with a love interest that is a person of color. 👀
Answer: HE’S WORKING ON IT. (brb, quitting our jobs and writing a screenplay)
Some more things that came up:
Drabbles, of course, via Fanfic Wars. (this whole episode felt like an extended one-shot anyway, so…)
Here’s the piece about the Yankee Candle that allegedly smelled of Chris (remember 2015? What a time to be alive!)
A link to the Anna Faris Is Unqualified podcast he appeared on in 2016.
And now a quick thirst-tweet break to remind you of our credentials…
We also had a little moment where we just paused to sigh and squee at this classic fight scene, from Captain America: The Winter Soldier:
You know the bit when Cap says, “Before we get started, does anyone wanna get out?”
BITCH, LISTEN. LET ME GET *IN*. 💦
________________
Hope you love listening to this episode as much as we enjoyed making it. Thanks to Chris, who was so accommodating and open and honest and vulnerable with us? Shoutout to allowing us to openly thirst about your beard in your presence, friend. When you get here for your Broadway show, knock on our door and we’ll go for a drink and a slice of pie — we won’t even record it.
In the meantime, Lean In to your thirst, thirst-buckets. You’re grown – you can have this, at least.
and dumping it in january knowing that’s when the terrible movies/movies they don’t care about are released
Let’s show them what’s what. Get the girl that money.
What’s fucked up is that there are some theaters that aren’t even showing the film. My local theater (which is really the only one I can go to, feasibly) isn’t even showing Proud Mary.
When The CW ordered its fifth DC superhero series, “Black
Lightning,” back in May, fans were surprised to learn that there were no
plans to connect it to the rest of the network’s so-called
“Arrowverse.”
Launched with “Arrow” and later expanded to include “The
Flash,” “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow” and “Supergirl,” the network has
built a network of DC shows that all interconnect, culminating in a
multi-part four-way crossover last fall. “Black Lightning,” though, will
stand alone.
“I say this with all due respect, but they’re not really
relevant to the show that we’re doing,” executive producer Salim Akil
explained at the Television Critics Association press tour on Sunday.
“The great thing that Warner Bros. and CW allowed us to do was create
our own world. We really wanted folk to get to know this family before
we started branching out.”
Akil and wife/producing partner Mara Brock Akil were not shy
in their praise for WB and The CW, saying that they had the full
support of the studio and network to realize their full vision for the
show uncontested.
“Oftentimes there’s so many reports about studios and
networks, and I just want to say again that what you see is a direct
result of people supporting us in this,” Akil said. “This idea of why
they’re not in this universe or why they’re not in the ‘Justice League’
is because … [we were told] ‘You’ve got to do this the way you want to
do this. You’re going to live and die by that, and we support you.’
That’s what you’re seeing.”
“Black Lightning” premieres Tuesday, Jan. 16 at 9 p.m.
“Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has hired a full slate of law clerks through 2020, in a clear signal to the Trump administration that she isn’t planning on stepping down anytime soon.
At 84, Ginsburg is the oldest member of the court. If she planned on retiring before 2020, it is unlikely that she would have made these hires.
Above the Law broke the story, and listed the new hires for the 2018 as follows: Katie Barber (UVA 2015 / Brinkema (E.D. Va.) / Owens), Rachel Bayefsky (Yale 2015 / Rakoff (S.D.N.Y.) / Katzmann), Rebecca Lee (Yale 2016 / Wilkinson / Moss (D.D.C.), and Matt Rubenstein (Yale 2014 / Gwin (N.D. Oh.) / Tatel).
Her 2019 hires are listed as: Alyssa Barnard (Columbia 2015 / Nathan (S.D.N.Y.) / Katzmann), Marco Basile (Harvard 2015 / Watford / Barron), Susan Pelletier (Harvard 2016 / Garland), and Michael Qian (Stanford 2016 / Garland / Bristow Fellow).
“Michelle Williams, Amy Poehler, Emma Watson, Laura Dern, Susan Sarandon and more will be accompanied by activists from all sectors, including the mother of the #MeToo movement.
Women’s rights activists will walk the red carpet alongside actresses at the Golden Globes tonight, to help vocalize the message that #TimesUp is a campaign for gender equality that reaches beyond Hollywood.
The guests will include #MeToo hashtag creator and civil rights activist Tarana Burke, as well as farm worker, restaurant worker and racial justice leaders Marai Larasi, Rosa Clemente, Ai-jen Poo, Monica Ramirez, Calina Lawrence and Saru Jayaraman.
Each activist will be paired with an actress, with racial justice advocate Burke (who already achieved a high profile in Hollywood after being tapped as a consultant on the film Selma) walking with Michelle Williams; Larasi, founder of black feminist organization Imkaan, with Emma Watson; workers rights advocate and Alianza Nacional de Campesinas co-founder Ramirez with Laura Dern; Native American and human rights activist Lawrence with Shailene Woodley; Billie Jean King with Emma Stone, and Restaurant Opportunities Center United president Jayaraman with Amy Poehler.”
“Nothing about Black Lightning feels familiar. That’s a good thing. It’s on The CW, but it doesn’t look like any other CW show (and not only because it’s the network’s first series with a black lead).
It’s a superhero show, but it puts characters first and the super-powered stuff second. It’s not an origin story about a 20-something getting powers, either; it’s about rebirth for a man old enough to be their father.
“
Remember last year when I made a Mad Libs so you could generate your own Golden Globes fic? I made another one for New Year’s Eve. Hope you enjoy. A few tags below the cut. xo @missdibley
It’s near midnight, and you are helping yourself to another glass of Sloe gin fizz when Tom HIddleston finds you at the bar. “Guess who?” He hisses in your Toe. Before you can reply, he grasps your Elbow and Loudly, Roughy Skip his Butt cheek against you. Tom smells like Curly Apes, the fragrance marking a faint trail as he takes you into a nearby Taj mahal. Leaping his Ankle, he chuckles as he takes off your Boxers. But even he cannot disguise his Happy at the sight of your Funny Middle finger. “Just as I suspected,” Tom hisses. “Your Thumb is Orange .” “Please, Tom,” you sigh. “I beg you, please Run me! Pace me now!” “My pleasure,” he sighs. Taking off his Turtleneck , he is almost Hard as you look at his Purple Cucumber . “Is it to your satisfaction, Roscoe?” In reply, you sink to your Tiddy and tease it with your Ear. “It’s Polite,” you whisper, looking up at him through your lashes. “I hope it Kicks.” He Laughs. “I know it will.”
“he is almost Hard as you look at his Purple Cucumber”
Comedy gold I tell you. And I wasn’t even trying 😂🤣
this list ignores the last 15 years of movies, but that makes sense. if we’re going to talk about “classics”, we have to give the movies time to become classics.

Zachary Levi is heading to Toronto to begin work on the DC superhero movie Shazam! Few could have anticipated how quickly this DCEU project has moved along, especially given its somewhat rocky start. Geoff Johns broke a lot of hearts when he announced that Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam wouldn’t be making an appearance. Shazam’s arch-nemesis had seemed like a shoe-in for the film, so fans were definitely feeling let down there. A few weeks later, Levi’s casting in the lead role proved to be a bit more divisive than DC had probably hoped it would be. The lukewarm reception to Justice League certainly didn’t help matters.
The production does appear to be progressing nicely, however, and the fast-tracked start date is definitely a positive sign. The film has been rounding out its cast in recent weeks, adding up-and-comers like Asher Angel and Cooper Andrews (The Walking Dead) to the proceedings in the last few weeks. Fellow fresh faces like Grace Fulton and Jack Dylan Grazer (IT) have also joined the cast in the last month. With industry veteran Mark Strong rumored to be playing the main villain, things are really coming together nicely for Shazam!
With cameras set to roll on Shazam! in February, it looks like the star of the show is looking to get a head start on things. Levi took to Instagram to tease fans with the upcoming start of production earlier today, live-streaming his trip to Toronto. You can check out a snippet of the live stream below thanks to Twitter user flashcyborg.
It’s great to see how excited Levi is to get started on his biggest project to date. The 37-year-old was certainly an unexpected choice to play Shazam/the OG Captain Marvel, though it looks like fans are finally coming around on the casting decision. His charm is evident on and off screen, and he could prove to be an inspired choice for the role.
The DCEU as a whole had a pretty up and down year in 2017. After Wonder Woman debuted to critical acclaim and box office success, seemingly setting the shared universe back on the path to greatness, Justice League went in the exact opposite direction. With more fans talking about a possible alternate cut than the film itself, the DCEU needs all the positivity it can get at this point. Here’s hoping Levi and co. can deliver with Shazam!
“If A Wrinkle in Time succeeds at the box office, it could open the door for not only more directors of color being given budges of $100 million+, it could also lead to non-white leads being cast in films. Maybe, our dream of seeing Percy Jackson adapted with three non-white leads could actually happen.”
“Black Panther is a special situation, because it’s Black characters from the comic books. They couldn’t exactly change the race of T’Challa and his cast; they would be fundamentally changing the story, and the point of it. T’Challa’s Blackness is something special, something that adds to his royalty. But with A Wrinkle in Time, these characters could have been any race. They could have been white. But Ava chose to make a majority of them people of color – which is tremendously important.”
Not like women have been telling y’all this since the beginning of time or anything.
I mean, yeah, at one point three years ago I was curled up in a fetal position literally screaming/crying/gasping for breath on my bed in my dorm room, so my response to this headline is basically, “No shit.”
No wonder women are so likely to ignore heart disease/attack symptoms. If something isn’t as bad as my cramps, I figure it can’t be that bad.
THAT LAST COMMENT
!!!!!
No seriously. There aren’t enough people who understand how important that last comment is. I lost my right kidney four years ago because of “if something isn’t as bad as my cramps, I figure it can’t be that bad.”
My. Fucking. Kidney.
Don’t force people with periods to internalize and silence themselves when they have cramps!
Can confirm “can’t be that bad because period”. I had a kidney stone and it took me like 2-3 days to realize it wasn’t my period because it basically felt like that. Pain is normal for women (and other people with a uterus), it’s part of being a woman, and so we’re much less likely to know when the pain we’re having is bad because we deal with so much of it some much more often than men do. Pain is not always a “something is wrong” indicator for us.
VENTURA, Calif. – With over 527 buildings lost in Ventura to date, actor Zachary Levi wanted to do all he could to lend a helping hand to the city he grew up in.
“I am from Ventura. I grew up in Ventura. I grew up literally right down the road of Foothill and Victoria,“ said Levi. “I went to Buena high school. I mean this is my hometown. I was in Los Angeles watching it burn and I was feeling incredibly helpless.”
The Thor actor partnered with GoFundMe as they set up a fundraising campaign. Levi will match donations up to $50,000. The donation will go to the victims who need it the most.
“It’s important that we find these families,” said Levi. “I am just trying to raise as much money as we can. I promise you that all that money is going to go directly to whoever needs it.”
Zac’s campaign is only $1,992 away from reaching the $50k goal, which he will then match. Please consider donating a few dollars today to help him meet this goal and bring much-needed resources and hope to the victims of this fire!
